Accounting Student Experiences

Cedarville’s accounting major affords students many opportunities to serve in professional organizations, student organizations, and internships in relevant career fields.

Integrated Business Core

In today’s business world, coursework and GPA often isn’t enough to land students their dream job. Employers want to see experience. Cedarville University’s Integrated Business Core (IBC) is a semester-long program that provides students the opportunity to integrate classroom learning with practical business experience. Marketing, management, and finance classes combine with a practicum where students work in a strategic business unit to develop and market products. In one fast-paced semester, students develop a product and business plan, borrow money, and bring their products to market. Cedarville is the only Christian university that offers this kind of program to business students.

Student Organizations

The Accounting Society promotes accounting awareness, establishes relationships with professionals in the accounting vocation, provides tutoring for students, and promotes fellowship among accounting students.

Enactus is an organization that provides our students the opportunity to make a difference, develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing, and teaching the principles of free enterprise.

Student CEOs is dedicated to enhancing communication between the School of Business Administration and its students, enhancing the relationship between faculty and students in the program, and participating in marketing and execution of departmental events and programs.

Women in Business is an organization dedicated to helping women in professions learn more about reaching goals in careers, at home, and in service. Women in Business provides a forum for addressing issues relevant to women in business careers, helps women connect with modern female business leaders, provides opportunities for impacting women in need, and establishes camaraderie among female business students.

It helps to have an edge. And while Cedarville University students receive world-class instruction from their professors as they prepare to pursue careers in their chosen fields, the wise collegian knows that a degree and a good GPA simply aren't enough in an increasingly competitive job market. To succeed, they need real life, hands-on experience.

Enter internships... or more precisely, "discipline-related experiences." Jeff Reep, Director of Career Services, stresses the importance of these short-term forays into the professional world. "A student who graduates with only a degree is at a disadvantage," he explains. "They'll be competing against other graduates who have had two or even three internships."

Take a look at the exciting discipline-related experiences our accounting students have enjoyed.
