We are delighted that your student is participating in this exciting early college program! You can help your student succeed by understanding these important aspects of Dual Enrollment.

  • Email is essential. Your student must check their Cedarville University email account frequently (at least daily) to avoid missing important emails from their professor, peers, and the DE office. All official University communication will now be sent to the University email account.
  • The flow of communication should be between your student and the professor. Professors include their contact information in syllabi, and questions regarding content, grading or timing of assignments, or other course-related questions should be between the student and the professor. Professors cannot speak with parents regarding academic progress without a current, signed FERPA waiver on file in the registrar’s office.
  • The DE coordinator looks forward to interacting with parents any time about program-related questions such as registration and course choice/sequencing, however, the coordinator cannot speak with parents regarding academic progress without a current, signed FERPA waiver on file in the register’s office.

Course content is appropriate for the college classroom and is discussed at a level appropriate to college-age students. All discussion occurs within the framework of a biblical worldview, however, parents must determine whether their student is ready for this experience. Content is not altered because high school students are enrolled.

All higher education students are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended, regardless of age or instructional delivery method.

  • Academic records: DE students may waive their privacy rights and allow University personnel to speak with parents regarding their academic records. For more information related to FERPA, view the University's FERPA policy. If your student wishes to waive his or her privacy rights, your student must request a waiver form by contacting the office of the registrar. FERPA waivers are in force for a specified period of time and for specified individuals; FERPA waivers do not carry over from one academic session to the next.
  • Financial records: If your student wishes to waive his or her privacy rights with regard to financial records, your student may contact the cashiers office or complete and submit a financial information release form.

Communication in writing center sessions will occur between your student and the writing center tutor, where your student can ask questions about the assignment and the paper as well as seek assistance for improving the writing overall. Information about the writing center is available on the Writing Center's website. Information on how your student can make appointments at the writing center through its online scheduling system is also accessible on that website. All students are responsible to schedule and manage their own appointments through that system. As a parent, you may not participate in your student's tutoring sessions either in-person or online. If you accompany your student to a writing center session, the tutor will request that you sit elsewhere as he or she conducts the appointment. In addition, no tutor is permitted to speak with you regarding any tutoring sessions conducted with your student. Appointment policies for the writing center are available for review. The tutors look forward to assisting dual enrollment students with all their writing needs.
