Biography
Assistant Professor Ryan L. Futrell is a 1997 Cedarville Graduate. After graduation, he earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has taught creative writing, literature, composition, and developmental learning courses at UNCG, Elon University, and now at Cedarville. Since coming to Cedarville, Professor Futrell has served as a faculty advisor for the student literature journal, The Cedarville Review. Professor Futrell has published poetry in such journals as The Cresset, 88: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts, caketrain, Poetry Motel, and Flights. He has published short fiction in Virginia Adversaria, Harper Palate, Zone 3, and Square Lake. He has had stories nominated for Scribner's Best of the Fiction Workshops, New American Voices, and has twice been nominated for The Pushcart Prize. His story, "Mythologies" has recently been selected by W.W. Norton and Company for inclusion in an upcoming anthology entitled, "Flash Fiction Forward" (scheduled for publication in August of 2006). He has taught at Cedarville since 2003.
