Sport and Exercise Studies

The sport and exercise studies major prepares students for a career in entry-level positions in YMCA/recreation centers(i.e., personal trainer, activities director), sport ministry organizations, social service agencies, coaching at the secondary school and college/university level, secondary school and college/university intramural or athletic departments, sport broadcasting, sport writing, sports information director and other possibilities within the sport industry. This program can be used as preparation for graduate school in such areas as sport psychology or sport sociology, recreational therapy, occupational therapy, or ergonomics. A minor selected with advisor approval is also part of the requirements for this major, such as Coaching, Comprehensive Communication Arts, Writing for the Professions, Sports Ministry, Sociology, Psychology, Sport Management, and Business Administration . Students can also get involved in the Physical Education Organization -- Phi Epsilon Omega.
