Sport Management Practica

The Sport Management Major (new catalog) includes five practica that need to be completed before graduation.  One practicum is a part of the Event Planning/Production Course (SMGT 3300), while another is a part of the Facility Design/Management Course (SMGT 3200).  The three “out of class” practica (listed below) need to be approved by the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and must relate to the appropriate sport management experience with actual job experience. The experience should include a minimum of 30 hours of actual on-the-job experience for 1 hour of credit under the guidance of a practicum supervisor.  The supervisor will complete an evaluation form at the conclusion of the practicum.

Students cannot register online for Sport Management Practica.  To begin the process, a student first needs to apply for ESS Departmental approval by downloading (and printing) the appropriate paperwork below.  The student needs to fill out the application and have it signed by both the practicum supervisor and their advisor.  The completed application needs to be turned in to Dr. Alan Geist, who will gain final approval from the Chair of Exercise and Sport Science.

After a student gains this final approval, he/she needs to submit the "Non-Traditional Course Request" form to Dr. Geist and then take the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.
