Jeff Lewis

Dr. Lewis received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati. After completing a specialized residency in hospital pharmacy administration at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals he returned to his home state of Ohio to assume the role of Clinical Coordinator at Timken Mercy Medical Center in Canton, and subsequently the Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services at Summa Health System in Akron. While in these roles, Dr. Lewis was responsible for developing and maintaining many of the systems and processes that affect quality institutional drug use (e.g. formulary management, hospital staff education, Continuous Quality Improvement efforts related to safe medication use). Through this work he developed a special interest and expertise in medication error reduction strategies.

After several years in clinical pharmacy management, he turned his attention to the ambulatory arena, including home care, and progressive community pharmacy services with Ritzman Pharmacies of northeast Ohio. During this period of time he also built upon his interest in worship, earning a Master of Arts in Christian Ministries from Malone College in Canton, Ohio.

In October of 2000, he accepted an invitation to join medical information publisher Lexi-Comp, Inc. (Hudson, Ohio) as a pharmacotherapy specialist with primary responsibility for developing and maintaining the organization’s envisioned drug interactions database (Lexi-Interact™ was quickly recognized as an industry standard by healthcare leaders across the nation), and concluded his tenure there as Director of Product Development. In 2007 he completed a course fellowship in medical informatics sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Maryland.

Prior to joining the faculty of Cedarville University in 2009 as Assistant Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Lewis worked with The University of Findlay College of Pharmacy and Giant Eagle Pharmacy to develop a unique, clinical training for Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences. Additionally, Dr. Lewis possesses over 20 years of pharmacy experience, and has authored numerous publications and professional presentations in addition to editing hundreds of published drug monographs.  He also brings more than 15 years of clinical faculty and teaching experience with The University of Cincinnati, Virginia Commonwealth University, The University of Toledo, Ohio Northern University and The University of Findlay.

As Associate Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Lewis oversees many of the administrative services of the School, and is chiefly responsible for student and professional affairs.  Aside from teaching in the prepharmacy curriculum, Dr. Lewis has published articles and made several professional presentations during recent months on some challenging bioethical issues facing our profession (e.g., emergency contraceptives; end-of-life decision-making), and serves as a Fellow of the Cedarville University Center for Bioethics..
