Field Trips and Field Experiences
Our courses take many field trips to both local and remote areas. Almost every one of our courses has one or more field trips. Many of our students attend the fall meetings of the Geological Society of America, held in various places across North America such as Denver, Vancouver, and Charlotte. Some of our upper-division classes take weeklong field trips over spring break to geologically significant areas like Dinosaur National Monument, the Grand Canyon, or Death Valley. Each student in our program gets to travel widely and experience geology firsthand. Besides field experiences, our programs also emphasize research opportunities. Many of our students have had the chance to present their research at professional geology meetings and to get their work published.
Students in our Geology and Geosciences programs have had the opportunity to explore in places such as:
- Grand Canyon, Arizona
- Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
- Sites in Ohio, Pennsylvania, , North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, Minnesota, West Virginia
- AIG Creation Museum, Kentucky
- Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
- Dinosaur National Monument, Utah
- Anza Borrego Desert, California
- Death Valley, California
- Mt St Hellens, Washington
- Garden of the God's, Colorado
- Numerous National Parks
Senior Capstone Experience
Senior capstone experiences for the geology and geoscience majors include a year-long senior research project and a course to prepare our graduates for the Professional Geology exam, which is required by many states to work as a geologist.
The Student's Perspective
The geology classes are really interesting because we are able to learn from a Christian worldview as well as learn about what conventional scientists believe. The classes are small and really interactive, which is great! We also get to go on the best fossil hunting trips! It is really a blessing to be able to study geology here at Cedarville! Kristen Baechtle
I am so excited to be a geology major at Cedarville! I am very glad to be at Cedarville — not just because I feel the need to "hide" from evolutionary teaching but because here I can learn the truth. I am thrilled to watch what God will do with this in my life and in the lives of others around me who will also be impacted by this incredible program. Sarah Maithel
Cedarville's geoscience program has catered to my interests in both geology and environmental science. I am challenged to study science with both a biblical and secular view. We are introduced to many topics in the realm of science and get plenty of hands-on experiences that will prepare us for work after college. Cedarville was a good choice for me. Samuel Rice
