Leader Workshops

We are excited to welcome the staff from Skyview Ranch in Millersburg, Ohio! They will be presenting all of the leader workshops for Junior Jam 2011.

Workshops will be offered at 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., or 2:15 p.m. You do not need to sign up in advance for these workshops but you can choose which ones to attend on the day of the event. Please see workshop titles, presenters and descriptions below.

11:15 a.m. Workshop Options

  • You only Live Twice Once by Jeremy Hales, Executive Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Can't wait until the next opportunity to load up the youth from your church in a van, drive 2 hours, unload them for a bathroom break, reload them after buying everyone a drink and snack, warn everyone not to drop crumbs in the car, drive another hour listening to the same song over and over and over again?  We all hit the valleys!  Learn how to get back up again on the mountain top!
  • Caught: Red Handed by Nikki Childs, Administrative Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Have you ever waited until 10 minutes before class started to read your church-provided curriculum for the first time? If so, you have been Caught: Red Handed! Since you are not alone, come learn how anyone can easily build a simple Sunday School lesson. Discover how to use your curriculum to fit your classroom lesson or how to build your own from scratch. Before long you will be quickly planning fun, Biblical lessons for your students.
  • Snack Attack: Thinking Beyond the Cookie by Keith Miller, Program Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Snack time in children's ministry can become routine and usually results in serving cookies and juice every Sunday. Think beyond the cookie to creatively use snack time to teach a lesson that kids can connect with. A snack with more than the purpose to eat...who doesn't love that! Oh and FREE FOOD for everyone!
  • Counter-Errorism : Turning Challenges into Teachable Moments by Erin Bullington, Guest Services Director at Skyview Ranch Camp
    Challenges are something every group will face. Instead of running from those challenges, embrace them to their full potential. Use these moments to teach and to stretch. Activities such as initiatives can be used to strengthen a group and individuals. Through these types of exercises, weaknesses within a group can be revealed and addressed, and leaders can be discovered.
  • You are Smarter than Your Technology! by Ryan Simmons, Media Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Ever feel insulted by your camera's menus? Does your church sound system baffle you on a continuous basis? Do you wish you could make what you see in your head happen in a video? Come to this free-for-all on Media Technology and get the edge on your gadgets. Ryan will provide hands on equipment, easy-to-understand explanations and a question and answer session should help you tackle all of your media problems.

1:15 p.m. Workshop Options

  • New GAMES by Jeremy Hales, Executive Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Breathe new life and excitement into your program. Brimming with games that have been screened, refined and extensively field-tested by Junior professionals, this hands-on fun-filled seminar with leave you motivated and begging for more when you leave. Learn valuable tips on how to present games and how to select activities for your particular students. This is a super session that will combine with the 2:15 session.
  • Mole Hunt by Nikki Childs, Administrative Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Keeping your children safe is a high priority. Whether it is your personal children, your children's friends, the children in your neighborhood or even the children in your church, knowing they safe and sound will always help you sleep better at night. Come learn tools to build a secure child protection policy within your ministry. Learn the value of interviewing your volunteers, backgrounds checks, basic First Aid Training and more. Keeping your children safe by knowing and educating your workers was never easier.
  • Inside Job vs. Field Work : How to Extend Beyond 4 Walls by Erin Bullington, Guest Services Director at Skyview Ranch Camp
    Anybody can stand and talk to a group of kids. But why not turn the everyday lecture into an exciting, interactive, and memorable experience. Take them beyond the classroom and engage them in the great outdoors. The evidence of our Lord is shouting to be heard through everyday sights we often take for granted. From the resurrection through a dandelion to the perfection of an owl's structure, nature truly holds the key to teaching kids about our Savior. This is a super session that will combine with the 2:15 session.
  • Top Secret: Classified Information by Keith Miller, Program Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Have you ever wanted to know what your junior students are thinking about and why they act the way they do? Are they just a mystery to you that you want to figure out? The secret is that they have a completely different set of characteristics that you have to understand. Once you understand the secret, classified information about their age group you can do so much with them. Come learn about what makes a junior student a junior student and sets them apart from every other age group you will ever minister to!
  • 45 Ways to Get Awesome Media by Ryan Simmons, Media Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Hold on tight! This is going to be a quick, fast and furious talk through 45 different free (or cheap) resources to help your web, video and audio presentations look and work better. Be prepared to write fast and have fun!

2:15 p.m. Workshop Options

    You asked for more games so come and get your second dose of fun, laughter and excitement. This hands on approach to games and ideas will leave you with a bag full of tricks to take back home to your youth and ministries. This session will combine with the 1:15 session to create a SUPER session!
  • Nobody Does it Better by Nikki Childs, Administrative Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Ever felt on the outside looking in? Like a stranger in the midst of good friends? In a group of people we can often feel lost and insecure without a single person who knows your name.  The truth is, it is easy to take initiative to build new, long lasting relationships. This will be a life changing lesson which can transform you and your ministry as a Pastor, Youth Leader, Volunteer or Church member. Learn to be a catalyst for yourself and others to be an inclusive group and before long, nobody will be building relationships better than you.
  • I-Spy : The Mission to Seek Out True Treasure by Erin Bullington, Guest Services Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    We already know the answers to life are present in God's Holy Word. However we often wish for straight forward answers instead of having to hunt. Learn to make the discovery half the fun! Go on a modern day treasure hunt around campus to discovery the nuggets of truth throughout the Scripture. This session will combine with the 1:15 session to create a SUPER session!
  • The Mission: Rescuing the Princess by Keith Miller, Program Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Have you ever thought to yourself, "I am in children's ministry and I don't know how to lead a student to Christ or help a junior student grow?" Come learn many creative ways that can lead a child into a relationship with Christ. The mission can be accomplished by just being prepared and understanding what a child needs to understand when coming into that relationship with our Savior. It's not scary; it just takes some practice and confidence. You can do it because God has called you to do it!
  • Putting the 'Work' in Social Networks by Ryan Simmons, Media Director of Skyview Ranch Camp
    Ever wondered about the value of having a Facebook page or a Twitter account? Have accounts, but not sure what to do next? Does it seem like everyone is talking about them, but you aren't sure how to make them do what you want them to do? Join in this session as we explore what these networks have to offer, and how you can use them to effectively reach your kids in the ministry.
