Important Information about 2012 Tax Documents

W-2

  • What is it for?
    Form W-2 reports employee income and taxes withheld during a calendar year (January 1 through December 31).
    • W-2’s are generated for faculty and staff, as well as for student employees who work in either the campus employment and/or federal work-study program
  • Who receives this form?
    Cedarville University must complete Form W-2 for each employee who received a salary, wage, or other compensation in 2012. This includes all students employed through the College Work Study Program.
  • How will the form be sent?
    Current employees can choose to receive their form electronically through WebAdvisor. Once electronic delivery has been chosen, no paper forms will be produced.

    Otherwise, the following process will be used:
    Faculty and staff will receive their W-2 through campus departmental mail.
    Students will receive their W-2 based on their Spring 2013 enrollment status:
    • Students enrolled for Spring 2013 will receive their W-2 through campus mail.
    • Students not enrolled for Spring 2013 should receive their W-2 through U.S. mail to their current address of record at the time of printing.
  • When will the form be sent?
    All forms will be released by January 31, 2013.

1098-T

  • What is it for?
    Educational institutions are required to report qualified tuition, fees, scholarships, and grants using Form 1098-T. Please see IRS Publication 970 "Tax Benefits for Education" for a detailed explanation.
  • Who receives this form?
    All students who were enrolled at Cedarville during 2012.
  • How will the form be sent?
    Current students can choose to receive their form electronically through WebAdvisor. Once electronic delivery has been chosen, no paper forms will be produced.

    Otherwise, the following process will be used:
    Paper Form 1098-T will be sent to students based upon the following:
    • Students enrolled for Spring 2013 who have removed the FERPA privacy indicator should receive their 1098-T through U.S. mail to their recorded address.
      Note: Removing the privacy indicator is not the same as giving permission to view student account information using CedarInfo.
    • Students enrolled for Spring 2013 who have not removed the FERPA privacy indicator will receive their
      1098-T through campus mail.
    • Students not enrolled for Spring 2013 should receive their 1098-T through U.S. mail to their current address of record at the time of printing.
  • When will the form be sent?
    All forms will be released by January 31, 2013.

1099-INT

  • What is it for?
    Form 1099-INT reports interest earned on a student's account during a calendar year.
  • Who receives this form?
    All students who received more than $10 PIC interest on their student account balance during 2012.
  • How will the form be sent?
    Form 1099-INT will be sent to students based upon the following:
    • Students enrolled for Spring 2013 who have removed the FERPA privacy indicator should receive their 1099-INT through U.S. mail to their recorded address.
      Note: Removing the privacy indicator is not the same as giving permission to view student account information using CedarInfo. 
    • Students enrolled for Spring 2013 who have not removed the FERPA privacy indicator will receive their 1099-INT through campus mail.

1099-MISC

  • What is it for?
    Form 1099-MISC reports non-employee compensation earned during the 2012 calendar year.
  • Who receives this form?
    Cedarville University must complete Form 1099-MISC to anyone who received compensation not paid through its payroll system.
  • How will the form be sent?
    Form 1099-MISC will be sent through U.S. mail to the same address used on the accounts payable check.
  • When will the form be sent?
    All forms will be released by January 31, 2013.
