Vehicle Registration

All student and faculty/staff vehicles must be registered with Campus Security by requesting a parking permit. Registering your vehicle is an important part of our overall campus security plan and enables us to better protect our students, faculty, and staff. Vehicle registrations also allow Campus Security to alert you in the case of an incident or if a car must be moved due to construction or maintenance. The annual registration fee for cars is $50 (a 50% savings!) if registered by September 1, 2023, at 4:30 p.m., or $100 if registered on September 2 or after. For a vehicle to be registered, the permit must be picked up at the Campus Security Office in the SSC and properly affixed to the lower driver's side front window.

Students who do not register their vehicle and properly affix the permit to their vehicle are subject to fines.

Parking Permits

Gold Permits

Commuter Student Parking

  • GOLD PERMITS are for commuter students.
  • Commuters must only park in the white-striped spaces in the Commuter Student Parking lots.

  • Stevens Student Center (SSC)

Commuters must be off campus by curfew every night.

Visitor spaces in the SSC lot are not for vehicles with commuter permits.

Blue Permits

Resident Student Parking

  • BLUE PERMITS are for residential students.
  • Residential students must only park in Resident Student Parking lots.

Parking Guidelines (BLUE PERMIT)

MUST park in a parking lot assigned to a residence hall (view map).

Residential students cannot park in the following lots before 5 p.m. weekdays:

  • Fitness Recreation Center (FTR)
  • Health Sciences Center (HSC)
  • HSC/SSC Connector Stevens Student Center (SSC)
  • Tyler Digital Communication Center (TYL)
  • Stevens Student Center (SSC)
  • Milner/ENS/Chick-fil-A

Cars must be parked in a parking lot assigned to a residence hall by curfew every night. Resident students may not park in lots other than residential lots overnight.

Hill residents must park in either the Civil Engineering Center (CEC) or Chemistry Laboratory Center (CLC) lot located along the west side of the Chemistry Lab.

Visitor spaces in the SSC lot are not for vehicles with residential permits

Gray Permits

Graduate Student Parking

  • GRAY PERMITS are for graduate students.
  • All graduate students who come to campus must have a permit.
  • There is no charge for graduate students who commute to campus.
  • Gray permit holders may park in the white-striped spaces in the Commuter Student lots or Residential lots.

Faculty and Staff Parking

  • BLUE AND WHITE PERMITS are for faculty/staff members.
  • Blue-striped spaces are designated for faculty and staff parking only 24/7.

All blue-striped parking spots are reserved for faculty and staff 24/7.

Parking Enforcement

  • After September 4, 2023, unregistered cars as well as cars parked in the wrong lot or faculty/staff space will be ticketed. Tickets are $50 per incident. ƒ
  • After repeated parking violations for failure to register the vehicle, a “boot” will be attached to the vehicle, making it undriveable until Campus Security is called. ƒ
  • Once owner is located, student will be required to pay a $250 fine, register the vehicle for $100 (if applicable), and pay any outstanding tickets.

Permits FAQ

When does vehicle registration open?
  • Vehicle registration opens in July, about one month before Getting Started weekend.
I am a returning student with the same vehicle as last year. Do I need to re-register my vehicle?
  • Yes. You will register your vehicle just like the year prior. The online form should save past vehicles. You will simply select the vehicle, check that the information is current, and click submit. You will then be able to get your permit sticker during Getting Started weekend.

I am only a part-time student. Do I need a permit?
  • Yes. Any person enrolled in courses at Cedarville University needs a parking permit. This includes part-time and College Now students.

My parent is a faculty/staff member. Do I need a student parking permit?
  • Yes. Students are not allowed to use a parent/family member’s permit to park on campus. Obtaining a student permit ensures that Campus Security can contact students directly in the event of a collision, or if the vehicle needs moved for maintenance.

I received a ticket for being unregistered, but I registered my vehicle online. Why was I ticketed?
  • Vehicles are not considered properly registered until the owner picks up their permit and affixes it to their windshield. Permits are to be affixed in the lower corner on the driver’s side of the windshield.

I moved off campus during the school year. Can I get a new permit?
  • Yes. Students are allowed one free swap each school year. Register your vehicle as you did before, but select a commuter permit. You will then bring your old permit to the Campus Security office in the Stevens Student Center (SSC) and receive a new one.

I brought a new or replacement vehicle to campus. Do I need a new permit?
  • Yes. Permits are not able to be transferred to a new vehicle. Register the new vehicle online as you normally would. Then bring the permit to the Campus Security office in the Stevens Student Center (SSC) to get a new permit.

I brought a vehicle with a temporary license plate. Can I still register?
  • Yes! You would register your vehicle as usual, with the temporary plate. When you receive a permanent plate, email Campus Security or stop by the Stevens Student Center (SSC) office to update the plate information.

I have a friend/family member visiting campus. Do they need a permit?
  • Yes. Any vehicle parking on campus should have a visitor permit. Visitor permits are available at no charge. Stop by the Stevens Student Center office or call the 24-hour duty line to get a visitor permit. You will need the visitor’s name and license plate number to get the permit.

I am borrowing a car for a short time. Is there a temporary parking permit?
  • Yes. Temporary parking permits are available in the Stevens Student Center office. Temporary parking permits are valid for 21 days.

I am a student that also works for Pioneer Food Service. Which permit do I need?
  • Any person enrolled in classes at Cedarville University will need a student parking permit. Student workers are not permitted to drive their vehicle to work. Student workers are not allowed to obtain Pioneer parking permits. This helps keep spaces available for full-time Pioneer workers.

Parking Regulations FAQ

I am injured or am having surgery, but don’t have a state placard. Can I park in handicap parking?
  • Students and faculty who have obtained a temporary handicap parking permit may park in handicap spaces. Temporary handicap parking permits are valid for 30 days. Temporary handicap passes can be obtained at the Stevens Student Center office. Extensions will require obtaining another permit.

Are all white lined spaces open to resident students?
  • No. There are designated commuter sections in the Stevens Student Center, Apple Communications, Chemistry Lab, and Tyler Digital Communications parking lots. Resident students are NOT permitted to utilize these spots before 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Are commuter spaces open to residents on evenings and weekends?
  • Commuter spots are open to resident students after 5 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Vehicles must be moved from these spots by curfew each night, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed, regardless of when the vehicle was originally parked there.

My car has broken down on campus. Will I get a ticket?
  • Students who notify Campus Security that their vehicle is disabled will not be ticketed. Those who do not notify Campus Security and are parked in violation of parking regulations will be ticketed.

Can I park in blue lined parking spaces?
  • No. Blue lined spaces are reserved for faculty and staff 24/7.

Can I park in commuter spaces overnight?
  • No. Commuter parking spaces are to be vacated by curfew each night. Violators will be ticketed.

Why did my car get a boot? How do I get it taken off?
  • Vehicles are booted for being unregistered and cited repeatedly. Boots will be removed once the vehicle is properly registered. Parking boots incur a $250 fine. The registration fee, prior tickets and the boot fine will be charged to the student’s account.

I was given a ticket for parking illegally. What does that mean?
  • Parking illegally means your vehicle was:

    • Outside of the lines
    • In more than one space
    • In a yellow hashed zone
    • In a loading zone for more than 15 minutes
    • In a traffic lane, sidewalk, or walkway
    • Extending a row of parking spaces
    • On a lawn, sports field, or other landscaped area
I was given a ticket for tampering. What does that mean?
  • Tampering means your vehicle was observed:

    • With an old ticket put on the windshield to avoid a new ticket
    • With a permit on the windshield that is not registered to that vehicle
    • With a fake permit on the windshield
    • With a parking boot damaged or removed after placement

Appeals FAQ

How do appeals work?
  • Students who wish to appeal their ticket can fill out an appeals form. A link can be found on your ticket (the QR code), or on MyCU. Appeals are then forwarded to the appeals board. The appeals board can grant an appeal, deny an appeal, or commute to a warning. Decisions from the appeals board are final.

Who is on the appeals board?
  • The appeals board is made up of faculty, staff, and students who are not directly involved with Campus Security. Generally, there are 2 faculty members, 3 staff members, and 2 students.

Can I further appeal a ticket that I have already appealed?
  • No. Decisions from the appeals board are considered final.

Fines FAQ

I have received a ticket. How do I pay my fine?
  • All ticket fines are charged to the student’s account. Fines can be paid online along with tuition and class fees, or in person at the cashier’s office. Campus Security does NOT take payment for parking fines.

Why was I fined more than 50 dollars?
  • Some violations incur fines over $50. This includes fire lane violations ($75), repeated handicap violations (increase of $50 per violation), and tampering (additional $50 added to original violation). For students classified as habitual offenders, tickets will be doubled automatically.

    A habitual offender is defined as any individual who has received four tickets for the same offense or a total of six tickets, whether or not for the same offense.

 

Visitor Parking

Visitors to campus may park on campus when displaying a Guest Parking Pass on the dashboard of the driver's side of your vehicle. If you were not sent a printable pass or given one at check-in, please stop by Campus Security in the upper level of the Stevens Student Center (next to the Information Center) to receive one.

Guests may park in any space on campus with the following exceptions:

  • Do not park in handicap spaces unless you have a state-issued handicap placard or license plate
  • Do not park in residential lots
  • Adhere to the 30-minute time limit on spaces marked for loading/unloading

If for some reason you receive a ticket, simply print your name and address on the back of the ticket and either drop it into campus mail (at the post office on the lower level of the Stevens Student Center) or turn it in at the Admissions Welcome Center. We will be glad to take care of the ticket for you.
