Custodial Services Regular Cleaning Duties

The custodial services department goal is to provide a healthy, clean environment for all University employees, students, guests, and visitors. Specifications have been agreed upon for all areas including offices, classrooms, restrooms, break rooms, stairwells, and hallways. Our intent is toensure that these standards of cleanliness are maintained on a daily basis and even surpassed when possible.

Administrative Buildings:

Daily Services

  • Emptying trash and recycling containers
  • Vacuuming all carpeted traffic areas
  • Sweeping or dust mopping all hard-surface floors
  • Sanitizing all restrooms
  • Cleaning drinking fountains and other stainless steel surfaces
  • Cleaning all chalk or white boards, erasers, and chalk trays
  • Wiping down desks/tables as needed
  • Restocking all paper and soap dispensers as needed
  • Sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming all corridors and stairs as needed
  • Cleaning all door glass and restroom mirrors

Weekly or Biweekly Services

  • Dusting all open surfaces
  • Vacuuming all carpeted areas wall to wall (under tables and desks)
  • Mopping all hard-surface floors
  • Thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing locker rooms

Periodic Services

  • Buffing hard-surface floors
  • Scrubbing and recoating hard-surface floors
  • Stripping and recoating hard-surface floors
  • Surface cleaning or deep cleaning carpeted floors
  • Dusting and cleaning window blinds
  • Thoroughly cleaning walls, furniture, etc. twice per year

Residence Halls:

Daily Services

  • Emptying trash containers
  • Sanitizing all restrooms
  • Cleaning drinking fountains
  • Sweeping all hard-surface floors
  • Restocking all paper and soap dispensers as needed
  • Cleaning all door glass and restroom mirrors

Weekly or Biweekly Services

  • Emptying recycling containers as needed
  • Wiping down washers/dryers in laundry rooms
  • Scrubbing all showers
  • Mopping all hard-surface floors
  • Sweeping all stairwells and mopping if needed
  • Vacuuming all carpeted hallways in hall-style dorms
  • Dusting lounges/lobbies

Periodic Services

  • Scrubbing all hard surface-floors
  • Surface cleaning or deep cleaning carpeted floors
  • Thorough cleaning of walls, furniture, etc. twice per year
