Cedarville, Ohio—The Athenian Quartet will be in concert on Tuesday, November 6 at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Cedarville University Dixon Ministry Center.
A saxophone quartet from Athens, Ohio, the Athenians will perform an original work for saxophone quartet by Seymour Barab, transcriptions of Gershwin’s piano preludes, a traditional French saxophone quartet composition by Gabriel Pierne, and other works.
The quartet members are Matt James, assistant professor of music at Ohio University; Allyn Reilly, professor of music theory and chair of music theory at Ohio University; Greg Sigman, senior library associate for the Ohio University Music/Dance Library and saxophone instructor for the Athens Community Music School; and Shannon Williams, K-6 music instructor for Athens City Schools. The members hold impressive credentials, including advanced music degrees, performance tour experiences, and soloist positions. Initiated in 1997, the quartet has played at conferences, clinics, and universities.
