Cedarville, Ohio—Cedarville University has announced the endowment of The Reverend Donald Tyler Scholarship. Bethesda Baptist Church of Brownsburg, Ind., has established the scholarship in honor of Cedarville University Trustee Donald Tyler.
The scholarship will be presented annually to a Cedarville University Bible major who is preparing for pastoral ministry and has a mininum GPA of 3.0. The awardee will also be expected to exhibit strong leadership and evangelistic qualities.
Tyler pastored Bethesda Baptist Church from 1959-1999. Under his leadership, the church grew from 97 people to more than 1,650, with a staff of 10 full-time pastors, scores of full- and part-time personnel, a leading Christian school, and dozens of outreach ministries. Bethesda Baptist planted 10 churches in the Indianapolis area during Tyler’s ministry.
Tyler is a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute (Illinois) and Wheaton College (Illinois) and received an honorary doctor of divinity from Cedarville University in 1977. He has served on national and state church councils and is a frequent speaker at Bible and church conferences. Tyler and his wife, Martha, plan to continue their ministry to professional baseball players and their wives.
