Chairman of the Board of MeadWestvaco to speak at Cedarville University

Cedarville, Ohio—Jerome Tatar, chairman of the board of MeadWestvaco, will speak at Cedarville University on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. in the Stevens Student Center (SSC) Theater. A reception will start at 3 p.m. in the SSC lobby. His topic will be "Mergers," a familiar topic to Tater due to Mead and Westvaco`s recent merger. Tatar`s presentation will be part of the Cedarville University Distinguished Speaker Series, a program which brings prominent senior executives to campus to interact with students and faculty. Tatar began his career with Mead in 1973 as operations research analyst and was promoted to manager of operations research in 1974. In 1994, he was promoted to vice president-operating officer of Mead, and, in 1996, the board of directors elected him president and chief operating officer. In 1997, he was elected chairman, chief executive officer, and president. Tatar holds a B.S. in mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University and a MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. His involvement in educational and medical organizations includes serving as both chairman and trustee to Sinclair Community College, The Dayton Area Graduate Studies Institute, and the Children`s Medical Center Foundation. A trustee for the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges and the Hipple Cancer Research Center, his additional leadership involvements include Robbins & Myers, Inc., Miami Valley Reads, and National City Corporation.
