Cedarville, OhioBaritone singer Jubilant Sykes will offer an evening of music at Cedarville University on Friday, January 31 at 8 p.m. The concert will be held in the Dixon Ministry Center on the Cedarville campus.
Sykes currently has two recordings available: "Jubilant," a jazz rendition of American spirituals and hymns, and "Wait For Me," which features his interpretation of memorable contemporary songs by artists such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, and others.
A classically-trained singer, Sykes drew upon gospel and jazz influences to form a fresh, personal singing style. His unique approach and his broad repertoire of sacred, popular, and classical music is much in demand.
Sykes has given critically acclaimed performances of Beethoven`s "Symphony No. 9," Brahms` "A German Requiem," and Mozart`s "Requiem." He has toured with the Boston Pops and has also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (at the Hollywood Bowl). In 1996, Sacred Music USA named him Vocalist of the Year.
