Cedarville, Ohio—The Miami Valley Ohio Chapter of Women of Vision (WOV) will hold an educational meeting about women and children in poverty on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at John Bryan Community Room, 100 Dayton St., Yellow Springs. Attendees will hear from Jean Clements, OSU-Greene County extension agent for family and consumer sciences, and Peggy Grigorenko, a former missionary to Nepal. Clements will speak about poverty in Greene County and Grigorenko will speak about the effects of poverty on Nepalese women and children. Now in her thirteenth year as an extension agent, Clements seeks to help people help themselves. The family and consumer sciences program of which she is a part focuses on helping people address issues such as childcare, family life, parenting, adult development and aging, nutrition, food safety, money management, and jobs and families. Grigorenko served in Nepal with her husband, Don, and four children for nine years (1987-1996). Through the Navigators, she discipled women and taught at an international school while her husband helped establish churches and discipled pastors. She plans to share specific stories of how the political and religious situations of Nepal forced women and children into cycles of poverty. The meeting is free and open to the public.
