Cedarville, Ohio—Cedarville University has named Dr. Jack Kwok, executive director and treasurer of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio, and Dr. Paige Patterson, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS), as its newest trustees. Kwok and Patterson will each serve a three-year term. "Our Lord has blessed Cedarville University by enabling us to add Jack Kwok and Paige Patterson to our board of trustees," said Dr. Paul Dixon, Cedarville University President. "Dr. Kwok has been key in encouraging Southern Baptist churches in Ohio to partner with us. He will continue to be a key leader for us in this partnership for the future." Dixon continued, "Paige Patterson is one of the most respected leaders in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). He is a strong proponent for Cedarville University, stating that ‘it is the finest Christian liberal arts university in America.` We rejoice that Dr. Kwok and Dr. Patterson have joined our board of trustees." Kwok has been executive director/treasurer of the State Convention since 1996. Prior to that, he spent eight years as director of cooperative ministries and director of Camp Paron for the Arkansas State Baptist Convention. An ordained minister, Kwok has experience in cross-cultural ministry, missions, state convention leadership, and race relations presentations. Originally from Arkansas, he holds an A.A. from Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark., a B.A. from Park College in Parkville, Mo., and a M.Div. and Ph.D. from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn. Patterson has been president of SEBTS, located in Wake Forest, N.C., since 1992. A native Texan, he began preaching at 14 and was ordained at 16. He went on to receive a B.A. from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and Th.M. and Th.D. degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In his many years of ministry, Patterson has preached in revivals, crusades, and mission projects throughout the United States and around the world, visiting more than 65 countries. He has served as a pastor in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas and has rendered service to Southern Baptists on associational, state, and national levels, including serving as president of the 16 million-member Southern Baptist Convention from 1998 to 2000. The naming of Kwok and Patterson to the board follows the State Convention`s recent endorsement of Cedarville University. During the 2002 annual session of the State Convention meeting, representatives from Southern Baptist churches across the state overwhelmingly passed a resolution to recommend Cedarville to all "Southern Baptists as an accredited, quality, four-year university that embraces Southern Baptists."
