Cedarville, Ohio-Classical guitarist Petar Jankovic will be in concert at Cedarville University on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Dixon Ministry Center.
A native of Yugoslavia, Jankovic earned his degree in classical guitar from the Music Academy in Belgrade. In 1996, he was invited to pursue the prestigious Artist Diploma Degree at the Indiana University School of Music. In 1997, he created a guitar program at Franklin College, Ind., and now serves as a faculty member at Indiana University School of Music, University of Indianapolis, and at Franklin College.
Since beginning his professional career in 1985, Jankovic has won numerous awards, including a bronze medal at the 1998 H.R.H. Princess Cristina 13th International Guitar Competition in Madrid, Spain; first prize at the 1998 Annual Competition in Performance of Hispano-American Music in Bloomington, Ind, ; and a bronze medal at the M.M. Ponce International Guitar Competition in Mexico City, Mexico.
A critic in the well-known Yugoslavian newspaper the Politika Expres wrote, "Petar Jankovic presented himself as a guitarist with talent and power. His performance showed us his skillful virtuosity as well as his beautiful and expressive lyricism."
