Cedarville, Ohio-Sports marketing authority Jon Spoelstra will talk about his marketing concepts and experiences on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. His presentation will take place in Room 245 of Cedarville University's Engineering, Nursing, Science Center (ENS).
Spoelstra is the author of "Marketing Outrageously" and is the teams division president of Mandalay Sports Entertainment, an organization which owns the Dayton Dragons and four other minor league baseball teams. As part of Cedarvillle University's partnership with the Dayton Dragons, Spoelstra will speak to sport management and business students and will take questions from the audience.
Spoelstra's resume boasts an impressive record of marketing success. In the 11 years that he was senior vice president/general manager for the Portland Trail Blazers, the franchise sold out every home game. During his time as president and COO of the New Jersey Nets, Spoelstra saw the Nets' home game attendance increase from zero sell-outs to 25 and local sponsorship sales jump from $400,000 to $7,000,000. Closer to home, the Dayton Dragons, owned by his Mandalay Sports Entertainment, have sold every seat to each of their games for six consecutive seasons.
Spoelstra's "Marketing Outrageously: How to Increase Your Revenues by Staggering Amounts" is a bestseller on "The Wall Street Journal" list. He has also written the marketing book "Ice to the Eskimos" and the motivational work "Success is Just One Wish Away."
