Cedarville, Ohio-Brilliant. Young. And from Ohio. Award-winning classical guitarist Robert Gruca will share his talent in a free concert at Cedarville University on Tuesday, September 18, at 7 p.m.
From Handel to Albeniz and Mangore, the performance is sure to delight and inspire audiences of all ages.
“We rarely have free concerts of this caliber in the area,” says Beth Porter, interim chair, department of music and art. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to present such a talented Ohioan in what is sure to be an unforgettable night.”
Besides touring the eastern United States and Europe with the Cleveland Orchestra, Gruca has also traveled up and down the East Coast as a solo concert performer-offering his unique repertoire of solo, chamber and concerto pieces to music lovers from South Carolina to Canada. His keen sense of musical interpretation along with his complete technical command over his instrument provide a glimpse of the bright future Gruca has in the classical guitar genre.
John Holmquist, Cleveland Institute of Music, calls Gruca “one of the most talented guitarists of his generation” and “a player to watch.”
Gruca holds a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Holmquist and Jason Vieaux. He has also participated in master classes with many other prominent guitarists, including the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. In addition, he has placed first in several national guitar competitions, including the top prize in the Rantucci International Guitar Competition.
When he’s not performing, Gruca shares his passion with others. A highly motivated and dedicated guitar instructor, he has a private guitar studio in University Heights and Hudson, Ohio.
The concert is free and open to the public and will be held in the recital hall in Cedarville University’s Dixon Ministry Center. For information, call 937-766-7728.
