Cpt. Andrew Merchant is serving his second tour of duty with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division in Iraq.

He has served as a tank commander and now as a Division Liaison Officer. While serving his country and bravely enduring yet another year in the war torn Basra Province, he still remembered his time at Cedarville.

In a very meaningful gesture, Cpt. Merchant obtained a flag that was flown over the Division Headquarters in Basra. He had it put in a frame along with a certificate signed by Maj. Gen. Richard C. Nash, Commanding General of the 34th “Red Bull” Infantry Division.

We in the Department of History and Government are moved and humbled. We proudly display the plaque in the departmental office and are having a brass plaque engraved to honor Cpt. Merchant and the brave men and women with which he serves.
