Global Learning

December 7, 2009

Last summer, students traveled through Europe and put their classroom knowledge to the test.

During the summer of 2009, four Cedarville students took their skills outside the classroom — and outside the country — for a unique experience that positions them for career success. Each year, Cedarville partners with the International Business Institute (IBI) to give students this unique opportunity.

In a world of increased globalization and economic interdependence, IBI prepares students for this changing context through a cooperative overseas program. In addition to interacting with a distinguished group of U.S. faculty and lecturers, participants visit and network with major institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Daimler-Benz, and the British Parliament. The program also includes a challenging classroom component that complements the field experience and hands-on learning.

The Cedarville students who participated last summer see the experience as invaluable to their education, one that enriches both their time at Cedarville and their future careers.

“IBI was an incredible experience that broadened my horizons, gave confidence to my future business career, and opened up new opportunities overseas. I obtained unique insight into the corporate strategy of many European corporations and non-government organizations, including the European Central Bank, the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Trade Organization, IKEA, John Deere, Swarovski, Nestle, and Black and Decker. I highly recommend this program to any aspiring business professional. I have made life-long friends from universities across the United States while visiting 12 countries.”
— David Johnson ’10, Management Information Systems, Wheaton, Illinois

“Through IBI, I experienced travel, business, and international studies in epic ways. The classes came alive as we actively practiced international finance and studied the economies of the countries. Not only were we able to travel to the best places throughout Europe, but we also received an insider’s look at major international businesses and organizations. I was stretched to think and function beyond my comfort zone and reaped the incomparable rewards of glimpsing real-world international business. Without a doubt, IBI ranks as the best academic experience during my college career.”
— Naomi Washatka ’11, International Studies: Global Economics and International Business, Howard, Ohio

“By the end of the summer, I had a new appreciation for international business, interest in other cultures, and a bunch of new friends from all over the United States. Visiting business headquarters overseas and learning about how their operations differed from the States gave me a great firsthand experience. The rigorous academics at Cedarville helped me balance the work and travel we did.”
— Valerie Wood ’10, Accounting, York, Pennsylvania
