Most of us have heard the story of the Christmas shoes—you know, the one where a little boy doesn’t have quite enough money to buy his dying mother gold slippers for Christmas? Or maybe you’ve watched the made-for-TV-movie, or heard the record-setting song. The author of the best-selling novella, “The Christmas Shoes,” Donna VanLiere, will be speaking at Cedarville University on Tuesday, November 3.
VanLiere, a 1989 Cedarville alumna, will speak about crushed dreams detailed in her latest book, a memoir titled “Finding Grace.” It is a powerful story about struggling with infertility, dealing with emotional pain, and discovering peace. VanLiere considers it a privilege to promote adoption and to offer encouragement to those facing infertility challenges.
VanLiere has won numerous awards for her nine publications, including a Retailer's Choice Award, a Silver Angel Award, an Audie Award, and a nomination for Gold Medallion Book of the Year. She also was recently inducted into the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges Hall of Excellence, joining other luminaries such as Coretta Scott King, Hugh Downs, and Senator John Glenn. VanLiere is a popular and gifted speaker at Women of Faith conferences.
She and her husband, Troy VanLiere, have adopted three children: two girls from China and a boy from Guatemala. They live in Franklin, Tenn.
