A faithful worship leader magnifies the greatness of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit by skillfully combining God’s Word with music, thereby motivating the gathered church to proclaim the gospel, to cherish God’s presence and to live for God’s glory. — Bob Kauflin, Worship Matters

On September 15–16, Cedarville worship students were privileged to witness this kind of faithful worship leader in action. Bob Kauflin, director of worship development for Sovereign Grace Ministries, interacted with students in a number of events that profoundly influenced many. Zachery Santmier, a sophomore worship major, said, “Bob’s insight and heart for cross-centered worship profoundly impacted the way I put song sets together and how I look at Sunday morning worship. His heart for the Lord and clear vision of what worship should be has brought about the most influential seminar I have ever been a part of.”

On Thursday, Kauflin attended a worship band rehearsal and offered feedback, including comments on musicality as well as the overarching goal of a worship leader. Jeanetta Baumer, a junior worship major who participated in the rehearsal, said, “I so appreciated how Bob took the time to invest in my life, encourage me and speak God’s truth to me; he helped me better understand the role of believers as worshippers and my role as a worship leader.” Kauflin also participated in a worship forum, answering students’ questions concerning music and ministry. On Friday, he joined as a worshipper at the student-led worship encounter event and even came to the platform to lead the band in a song written by his son.

All of the students involved were blessed not only by Kauflin’s musicality and example of leadership, but also by his passion for using music to help God’s people daily live out the gospel.
