Technology is everywhere, and with a constant stream of new gadgets and gizmos, anyone can find what it is he is looking for … as long as there’s an app to take him there.
To get people the information they want, Cedarville University’s computer services team developed a free mobile application called cuMobile. The app gives users easy access to CU Classifieds, course schedules, event calendars, dining hall menus, a campus map and more.
“I use the app almost every day,” says Charles Crickard, a senior theatre major at Cedarville. “It’s nice to have access to whatever I need when I need it. I mostly use the Find a Person feature and the campus map, and next semester, I’ll use the Classifieds function to find books for classes.”
The first version of the app was released in June 2010, and developers are currently working to expand features. Future releases will enable users to view password-protected information, post classified ads, and navigate through recently-viewed information while offline.
“We hope for this app to grow more useful for current students as we add features, says Devon McCarty, programmer at Cedarville. “We also hope for it to be useful for prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, and even the surrounding community.”
The current version is supported by the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Developers plan to release an Android-compatible version before the end of the year, and they are currently researching the potential for BlackBerry support.
Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University attracts 3,200 undergraduate, graduate, and online students to more than 100 areas of study.
