During the 115th Commencement on Saturday, May 7, 2011, three graduates were honored with the University’s most prestigious student award. The President’s Trophy, the highest honor for a graduating senior, recognizes leadership, ministry, community and campus involvement, athletic performance, and academic achievement. The 2011 recipients were Andrew Barfell '10, Emily Chiu '10, and Emily Shanahan '10.

During his time at Cedarville, Andrew Barfell balanced a biology premed academic program with involvement in several student organizations and activities. He served as a resident assistant, student government leadership director, and was an active member of two student organizations. Andrew is from North Royalton, Ohio.

Emily Chiu studied early childhood education and was highly involved in campus life and missions. She served as a resident assistant and as a campus tour guide for undergraduate admissions. She traveled to the Dominican Republic on a missions trip and recently completed an internship in Bankok, Thailand. Emily is from Vestal, New York.

The final recipient was Emily Shanahan, a communications studies major. As an eighth grader, Emily visited Cedarville with her parents to discuss some of the unique challenges that she would face living at Cedarville University. In addition to the challenges that all students face when they come to college, she also had to consider the unique challenges of being a student with Cerebral Palsy. As a student, she went on a mission trip to New York City, she participated in the 10K run for the Daughters of Cambodia project, represented her class as the junior class homecoming attendant, and completed an internship with Joni and Friends Ministries. Emily is from West Carrollton, Ohio.
