Cedarville University welcomes Ruth Lowrie, Ed.D., to the faculty of the department of psychology. Lowrie will be serving as assistant professor of psychology.
Lowrie earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology from Grace College and her master’s degree in school psychometry at Ball State University. She also earned her Education Specialist and Doctor of Education degree in school psychology from Ball State University. She served at Cedarville as an adjunct professor intermittently since 2003, teaching psychology and education classes, before joining the full-time faculty in the psychology department.
Lowrie spent most of her career as a school psychologist, inspired by her favorite psychology professor in college. She began teaching at Cedarville because she agreed with Cedarville’s philosophy, and she loves the students and environment.
“It was a perfect fit for me, blending my love of psychology and the educational setting.”
She loves the fellowship, the chapels, the atmosphere and the support she has received during her time at the University. She also has a passion for teaching students. She said, “I am so impressed by their work ethic and zeal for life.”
Lowrie teaches a diverse range of courses within the psychology department. She teaches students about topics such as learning and memory, history and systems of psychology and counseling children and adolescents. Through these rigorous courses, she integrates her experience as a school psychologist into the classroom.
“It provides me with illustrations for most of the principles and theories I talk about,” she said. “It also allows me to talk to students about practical ways that the information they are learning can be applied in real life.”
