Cedarville University welcomes Stephanie Mills to the faculty of the department of science and mathematics. Mills will be serving as a chemistry laboratory instructor.
Mills earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary physical science education from Cedarville University.
Mills was inspired by her high school chemistry and physics teacher whose infectious enthusiasm made an impact on her. Because of this, she decided to pursue science education in college.
“I was fascinated learning about the way things worked and I enjoyed answering my classmate’s questions, so I thought I might enjoy the cycle of learning and explaining that teaching offers,” she said.
Mills originally planned on teaching high school science, but she was thrilled when she was asked to become a full-time faculty member at Cedarville. After teaching at the University for a year, she plans on attending graduate school and studying geochemistry, mineralogy or a similar discipline. She looks forward to participating in research and returning to teach at the college level.
Mills has always enjoyed teaching students. While attending Cedarville, she tutored students in chemistry for the academic enrichment center and Cedarville’s Student Government Association. She now teaches chemistry labs and loves interacting with students.
“The students are some of the best, too,” she said. “They are motivated to do well and I love answering their questions and helping them think through problems.”
