Jennifer Mukes, a recent Cedarville University graduate from Fishers, Ind., was recently honored as the Ohio Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW) Student of the Year.

Jennifer was given the title by the National Association of Social Workers Ohio Chapter to commend her work and dedication to the field of social work. Jennifer has shown her dedication on Cedarville’s campus through organizing an event addressing racial tension in Jena, Louisiana; participating in a civil rights bus tour; and organizing a 10K race to raise support for sex-trafficked minors in Ohio, raising over $21,000 for Gracehaven, a safe house for minor sex trafficking survivors.

She has also traveled to the Dominican Republic with other social work majors to serve women working in the sex trade and spent last summer working with urban youth in Indianapolis. Jen served as vice president of Phi Alpha (the collegiate social work honors society) and as president of International Justice Mission’s Cedarville chapter where she brought social issues to the forefront at the University.

Jennifer was chosen from among over 25 social work programs, including candidates from Case Western Reserve, Ohio State University and Malone. She will attend a dinner in late October in Columbus, Ohio to honor her recognition as BSW Student of the Year.
