Cedarville University’s information technology management major equips students for careers in business and technology, according to recent graduates. The program is designed to prepare students to understand business functions and manage technology and information systems within organizations.

Nick Thurow, a 2010 graduate of the program, is now a programmer and analyst at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., part of the largest integrated medical center in the world. Thurow works on software applications that help healthcare professionals track their patients’ unique needs.

Thurow said Cedarville’s rigorous coursework gave him the skills to be effective in this role. “Cedarville’s program prepared me for this position by teaching me that there is more to creating software and information systems than just writing code,” Thurow said. “The real challenge is understanding the business problem and then working with users to come up with a solution.”

Brandon Rabb graduated from Cedarville last year and entered a training program with Fidelity Investments. Now a systems analyst, Rabb works with business and technology teams to develop new programs and software applications to help business processes run more efficiently.

Rabb said his studies at Cedarville taught him to think critically about how to apply technology to specific situations. “I was challenged to think about things from multiple angles and find the best solution,” Rabb said.

Thurow and Rabb both said their capstone experience at Cedarville was especially valuable. “We did what I do in my job today,” Rabb said.
