Immigration: Discussion with Matthew Soerens & Jenny Hwang, co-authors of the book, "Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion and Truth in the Immigration Debate"

Matt Soerens

Matthew Soerens is the US Church Training Specialist for World Relief, where he focuses on helping churches to grapple with the complex issue of immigration. Matthew previously worked as a Board of Immigration Appeals-accredited legal counselor at World Relief's local office in Wheaton, Illinois, and prior to that he spent time with World Relief's local counterpart organization in Nicaragua. He earned his Master's Degree from DePaul University and his Bachelor's Degree from Wheaton College. He is the co-author of Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion & Truth in the Immigration Debate (InterVarsity Press, 2009). Originally from Neenah, Wisconsin, Matthew now lives in suburban Chicago.

Jenny Hwang

Jenny Hwang is the Director of Policy and Advocacy for the Refugee and Immigration Program at World Relief. In her role, Jenny advocates for just and compassionate legislation that affects refugees and other immigrants. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the co-author of Welcoming the Stranger; Justice, Compassion, & Truth in the Immigration Debate (InterVarsity Press, 2009). She lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband.

Tuesday at 7 p.m: Authors Soerens & Hwang will share an overview of their book and why this topic should be of importance to professing Christians. They will be interviewd by Dr. Deb Haffey (Sr. Professor, Communication Arts, Cedarville University). And there will be a time of Q&A from the audience (questions to be submitted in writing).

Wednesday at 7 p.m: Soerens & Hwang will address how Christians can be advocates for a biblical approach to the issues of immigration. There will be a time of Q&A and moderated discussion with the audience.

The Christian's Responsibility in Health Care

Gianna Jessen has what she refers to as the "gift" of Cerebral Palsy. Gianna's biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester, but Gianna survived. Her medical records state, "born during saline abortion"...this is what caused her Cerebral Palsy.
