Syllabus Statements about the Writing Center's Services for Faculty Use

Statement for all 1/2000–level courses and any other courses requiring papers less than 8 pages long:

I encourage you to access the tutoring services offered by the CU Writing Center, located in Tyler 104. CU Writing Center tutors can help you on all of your writing in any stage of your writing process, but they will usually focus on content and organization before they look at grammar and style. No matter what, the writing center will not proofread, edit, or write your paper for you. Expect to be actively involved during your session, whether you are developing a better thesis, reorganizing your main points, or consulting a style manual to understand formatting rules.

What to bring with you:

  • Your assignment sheet
  • Two hard copies of your paper
  • Your style manual (for the style required by this course)

A couple of rules: You may make one 30-minute appointment on any given day and only two such appointments per week.

To learn how to make an appointment at the writing center, go to http://www.cedarville.edu/Offices/Writing- Center/Edit-an-Appointment.aspx.

Since this course is a 3000-/4000-/graduate-level course and your assigned paper is longer than eight pages, you may schedule an extended (one-hour) consultation to work on your rough draft as long as it's already 8 pages long. You can make an extended consultation once per week. To learn about such sessions, go to http://www.cedarville.edu/Offices/Writing-Center/Extended-Consultations.aspx.

*Please note that we also offer extended consultations to students whose first language is not English; for students who self-identify as learning disabled; and for students enrolled in LIT 2090, Literary Analysis.
