Behavior Guidelines for Special Needs Classes

<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>

Remember: The purpose of Sunday School and Church attendance at Grace Baptist is to provide an experience in which the child can learn about God and enjoy participating in related activities with others.

Here are some behavior guidelines to follow during your experience:

<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>

1. Use as much positive reinforcement as possible ? reward appropriate behavior with praise and hugs! Try to limit hugging and other physical contact to rewards and saying good-bye. (This is not to say that you need to hug, but if you do, please follow these guidelines.)

2. Rather than saying ?No,? try to redirect the child. When the child is being stubborn or displaying inappropriate behavior, try to engage them in something appropriate.

<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>

3. Ignore misbehavior (unless it is dangerous to self or others) by walking away or turning your face away. Be sure not to reward inappropriate behavior by paying attention to it!

4. Make sure that you always hold hands with the students when walking in the hall or outside!

5. Be sure to place yourself between the student and the doorway when in classrooms. Some of our students like to run away and it will be easier for you to catch them if you?re between them and the door!

6. Try to keep classroom doors closed ? this removes from the child the hallway distractions and the temptation to leave the classroom!

7. Should you need help, follow these instructions:

??????????? With Rotana ? If you need help, look for Dr. Smith, or ask someone from the kindergarten class to get Dr. Smith or Barb Hunt for you. They will get the parents if necessary.

??????????? With Leah ? If there are 3 adults with the children, send one for help. If there are only two of you, it is important that you stay together. Please don?t leave only one adult ?on duty? with the children. Generally you can get help from someone in the hall or gym.

8. Please give an honest report to the parents when they ask how things went. But, be sure to be positive!
