People

There are four different ethinic groups the people of Papua New Guinea could be divided into: New Guineans, Papuans, Highlanders, and Islanders. There are many different cultural practices that differ between each group though.
Before the arrival of the the Europeans, some Papua New Guineans were known for headhunting and cannibalism. Yuck! Today the people have changed their ways but some still live in the small villages that were found by the Europeans in the mid-1800s.

Presently there are almost 4 million people living in Papua New Guinea. The average age is around 22, for both male and female. The average person lives to the age of 60.
