Japanese Children
Japanese children are required to go to school for nine years, beginning at age 6. They go to six years of elementary school, three years of junior high school and three years of senior high school. Some people go on to college but not everyone.
Japanese Children In Traditional Clothing
These children are dressed in a kimono. A kimono is worn for special occasions like formal parties, weddings or New Year's Day. Japanese people don't wear kimonos every day because they are hard to put on.
Japanese Mother and Daughter
Most Japanese families have three or four people in them. Traditionally, grandparents also lived with the rest of the family but since homes are so small, not as many people live together any more.
If you notice, the people in this picture are not wearing shoes. It is common in Japanese homes and restaurants to take off your shoes when entering. This keeps the floor much cleaner since Japanese people usually sit on the floor and even sleep there. Japanese people usually wear slippers in the home.
Elderly Japanese People
Elderly people are very respected in Japan. The Japanese people respect age since they feel elders have more experience and more knowledge.
