Wooden shoes were worn in the olden days in Holland because they were good protection against the cold and all the things that could have hurt the people's feet while they were working out on the farms. They are no longer worn today, but many people buy them as soveniers when they visit Holland. The shoes are still very much a part of the Holland Christmas celebration, because the children still put them out for Sinter Klaas to put presents in them.
