Taking a Hands-on Approach to Sports

Taking a Hands-on Approach to Sports

The next generation of allied sports health professionals train at CU.

It is a privilege to be an athletic trainer. Not all are able. Even fewer are willing. We believe that athletic training is a ministry which allows us to glorify The Lord by using the abilities He has given us.

Whether an athletic training student continues in the profession is of secondary concern when compared to the development of personal holiness and Christian character. An important aspect of the Christian character is how we approach the ministry God has called us to. If athletic trainers are to be successful, we must view what we do as a ministry and calling. Scripture clearly teaches that we must give our best effort in all we do.

"Whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks through him to God the Father." Colossians 3:17

"Whatever your hands finds to do, verily do it with all your might...." Ecclesiastes 9:10

If we minister to our own or to visiting athletes with anything less than our best effort and care, we are failing in our responsibility to God first and then to those athletes. There will be times when, to do our best will demand putting aside our own needs and plans. There will also be time when it is necessary to leave the training room and its responsibilities behind in order to maintain a balance in our lives.

Here at Cedarville University, we are daily striving towards the goal to which Christ has called us and we strive to serve Him by serving others. Our program mission statement is:

  • The Mission of the Cedarville University Athletic Training Program is to advance the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping godly men and women to be competent Certified Athletic Trainers for excellence in service to Christ in strategic fields of Christian ministry.
  • This is to be accomplished through an educational program that practices the skills associated with the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses associate with the physically active.
  • It is to be carried out in an environment of spiritual fellowship and relationships, which emphasize unreserved commitment to the worship of God, submission to the authority of the Scriptures, a life of personal holiness, the priority of the local church, and the mission of penetrating the world with the Truth.
