Community Covenant

The Cedarville University community, as brothers and sisters in Christ, covenants together to uphold the following core values as an important part of the mutual support and accountability that we extend to one another. We do not view these core values as matters of mere convenience or personal preference. We believe they are essential marks of lives transformed by God's grace. As a community of born-again believers, we commit ourselves to the pursuit of these marks of spiritual growth and maturity so that God may be glorified on our campus.

• We covenant together to express our love for God through our obedience to the authority of His Word, our practice of spiritual disciplines, and regular expressions of worship and Christian service.
• We covenant together to express our love for others through acts of kindness, wholesome and uplifting speech, redemptive expressions of confrontation and forgiveness, merciful acts to those in need, and loving proclamation of the Gospel.
• We covenant together to be people of integrity and self-control, truthful in our speech, honest in our conduct, and morally pure in both thought and action.
• We covenant together to pursue excellence in all that we do as an expression of our gratitude to God and our desire to be good stewards of all God's gifts, including our talents, time, and resources.

Standards of Conduct

At Cedarville University, we believe that the principles found in the Bible should govern our daily lives. We recognize that our appearance, words, and actions are a manifestation of our relationship to Christ and a testimony to believers. In addition, we believe that regular attendance and involvement in a local church is evidence of a maturing relationship with Christ. All graduate students are expected to adhere to the guidelines below.

• As a community of born-again believers, we believe that pleasing and glorifying God in all that we do and say is an expression of our gratitude to God's grace and love in our lives (1 Cor. 10:31; 2 Cor. 5:9). We believe it is important to be people of integrity who are truthful in speech and honest in conduct. Therefore, all should seek to serve Christ in an atmosphere free from attitudes of distrust, dishonesty, selfishness, damaging criticism, disrespect, favoritism, unethical conduct, and irreverence (Psalm 15; Matt. 5:33–37; Prov. 15:4; Rom. 13:9–10; Col. 3:8–9; James 2:1–13; Gal. 3:26–29; Rom. 13:1–2; I Tim. 2:8).
• The University affirms its belief that our interpersonal relationships are to reflect the biblical principle that all people are made in God's image and are equal in value. We believe it is important to express our love for others through acts of kindness as well as wholesome and uplifting speech (I Peter 5:5; Eph. 5:21; Phil. 2:3–11; Rom. 14:1–23; I Thess. 4:9; Col. 3:12–13). Therefore, it is the expectation that all forms of harassment (which include racial/ethnic, and sexual- and gender-based harassment) are prohibited. In addition, we believe threatening, intimidating, coercing, using abusive or vulgar language, violence or violent threats, or interfering with the performance of other employees are neither God-honoring nor acceptable behaviors within or outside the work place.
• Because of our commitment to moral purity in both thought and action (2 Cor. 7:1; 1 John 3:3), all acts of sexual immorality are viewed as unacceptable behavior (I Cor. 6:18–20; 1 Thess. 4:3–8).
• Because of our commitment to moral purity in thought and action (2 Cor. 7:1; 1 John 3:3; Matt. 5:27–28), accessing, possessing, and distributing or downloading pornography is prohibited.
• We believe that God has given the gift of intimacy to marriage (Hebrews 13:4). Therefore, we believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity should occur outside of marriage. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman (Gen. 2:24; Rom. 7:2; I Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22–23). Based on our commitment to moral purity and the gift of intimacy in marriage, we believe that all acts of sexual immorality are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex, i.e., homosexuality, lesbianism, incest, fornication, adultery (Rom. 1:21–27; I Cor. 6:9; Gen. 2:24; Eph. 5:31). Therefore, engaging in, living a lifestyle characterized by, or promoting a lifestyle that is in contradiction to this biblical position is prohibited.
• Graduate students living on campus will have additional standards of conduct expectations as a member of the Cedarville University residential community.

Behavior that is not in compliance with the above standards of conduct or that are a felony violation of state or federal law can result in corrective action up to and including expulsion from the University.

WebCT – Online course management system. Log in here with your Cedarville name and password to access all assignments and resources for online classes or courses that use WebCt.

Success Online – Helpful tips for succeeding in online courses both as an individual or in group work.

Computer Services – Provides computer-related resources to faculty, staff, and students to ensure a reliable network infrastructure, a dependable computing environment, essential help-desk services, and comprehensive information delivery.

Bookstore – A convenient one-stop for textbooks and school supplies. It also has a great selection of Bibles, gifts and cards, University logo items and sportswear, CDs, trade books, candy, and a small selection of toiletries.

Centennial Library – Provides an effective gateway to the world of information access and use for students.

Academic Enrichment Center – Cultivates academic scholarship among all Cedarville students.

Writing Center – Exists to help writers at all levels of proficiency from all academic disciplines develop effective writing skills.

Career Services – Provides materials for job-search techniques, resumé writing, and interviewing.

Counseling Services – Enhances student success by providing individual counseling, support groups, referrals, and education.

Chapel – Join with the Cedarville family in corporate worship and hearing from top Bible teachers, leaders, and authors from around the country. Chapel is held each weekday at 10 a.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center, and can be heard daily via cyberradio on The PATH.

CedarNet – Take advantage of the award-winning technology available at Cedarville. Not only do you have Internet access (including WIFI across all campus), CedarNet provides you with access to more than 160 software programs.

Center for Teaching and Learning – Provides support for distance learning and instructional design services for professors.

Most students enjoy eating meals in the university dining hall located in the Stevens Student Center. As a graduate student, you will pay $2.75 for breakfast, $3.25 for lunch, and $3.75 for dinner, all served buffet style. Local restaurants include Subway, Mom and Dad's Dairy Bar, Main Street Station, Beans & Cream, and Colonial Pizza.

Modest casual dress (including jeans and capris) is acceptable for classes. Shorts may be worn outside of the classroom.

Summer Housing

Students planning on living on campus in the residence halls are required to complete the housing request form at least two weeks prior to the start of class. Residence hall rooms are single occupancy, air conditioned, and furnished with a bed, dresser, chair, closet, phone and overhead light. You may bring a microwave oven and dormitory-sized refrigerator for your room. Students are responsible to provide their own linens for a standard twin bed, towels, and personal items. Each room is equipped with networked computer and printer enabling them to use Cedarnet, the University's intranet. Cedarnet provides access to over 150 commercial software packages, extensive online library resources, and high- speed internet. Please familiarize yourself with the "Computer Regulations" listed in the student handbook.

All graduate students living in the residence halls must provide proof of medical insurance. International students attending class in the United States are required to purchase medical insurace. Cedarville University will coordinate the purchase of this insurance.

The cost for housing is $99 per week which will be reconciled with the Cashier's office during the orientation and check-in on the first day of classes. The Student Life office makes housing assignments, coordinates check-in and distributes room keys upon arrival. Any questions can be directed to them at gibbsk@cedarville.edu or 937-766-7872.

Laundry

Coin-operated washers and dryers are available. The Cedarville Laundry (downtown) is available for use as well.

• University Medical Services – Provides student health care and a full-service ambulatory care facility with health care services similar to a family practice office.
• Recreation Center – Offers full access to campus recreation programs and facilities at no additional charge.

Campus safety and security staff are on duty 24 hours a day and can be reached at (937) 239-6491 or 999 from a campus phone. Call 911 in case of emergency. All students must have a student photo I.D. made upon arrival to campus. This is normally done on the first day of classes at the Campus Safety office. Vehicles must be registered with Campus Safety.

Several churches are located within a short distance of the University, as well as in Xenia or Springfield.

Equipment for indoor and outdoor activities (e.g. ping pong, pool, softball, and volleyball) may be obtained through the Student Life Division. An extensive state-wide bike trail connecting Cedarville to trails leading south and west is located just a half mile south of campus. Hikers can enjoy Massie's Creek Gorge, a quarter mile from campus, and the popular Clifton Gorge, just four miles north of Cedarville. Enjoy these recreational opportunities as time permits!

Cedarville is located in the middle of a triangle formed by Interstates 70, 71, and 75.

From the North

I-75 south to I-70 east; travel approximately 24 miles to the Springfield/Cedarville exit (Rt. 72); travel south 11 miles on Rt. 72 to the campus.

From the South

I-75 north to Cincinnati; merge with I-71; take I-71 north to the Sabina/Jamestown exit 58 (Rt. 72); follow Rt. 72 north to Cedarville. Proceed through Cedarville three blocks to the campus.

From the East

I-70 west to the Cedarville/Springfield exit 54 (Rt. 72); travel south 11 miles on Rt. 72 to the campus.

From the West

I-70 east to the Cedarville/Springfield exit 54 (Rt. 72); travel south 11 miles on Rt. 72 to the campus.

From US-35

US-35 through Xenia; Rt. 42 (north) to 72 (north) which is Main Street. Proceed through Cedarville, three blocks to the campus.
