James Mellick

Biography

Professor Mellick joined the art department in Spring 2008. Previous full-time teaching experience at Colby-Sawyer College, NH; Houghton College, NY and Calvin College, MI, includes Sculpture, 2D and 3D Design, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, Intro to Art and Art History. He has taught as an adjunct at Ohio Northern University, Columbus College of Art and Design and Penland School of Crafts. The majority of his 40 years of experience has been as a full-time sculptor and craftsman in Central Ohio where he has developed a national reputation with 160 exhibitions in the Midwest and through galleries in NYC and Chicago. His work has been published in Craft Arts International, Woodwork and Woodshop News magazines and in several college and high school textbooks. He has published articles in Crafts Report and various art newsletters and served as juror and curator for several regional and national exhibitions. Mellick is a charter member of the Christians in the Visual Arts and knows that his talent is on loan from The Creator. In 1997 he built Heartwood Studios and Farm near Marysville, Ohio where he and Marcia live peaceably with two llamas, two dogs, two cats and a variety of wild critters.
