One Graduate's Journey to a Successful Career
Dr. Alex Beaujean `99 serves as assistant professor of educational psychology at Baylor University.
Department of Psychology
The Cedarville psychology major applies the human-behavior research world to the needs & problems that people face on a daily basis. Human service and people-helping comprise a significant focus of the psychology major. The department has a strong track record both for placing students in desired jobs at the baccalaureate-level as well as seeing students find admission to graduate schools of their choices. Often the former students select a degree in applied psychology while the latter group of students select the more broad psychology major.
A hallmark of Cedarville's psychology program is a commitment to teaching all concepts from a biblical perspective. In particular, the faculty desire for students to think biblically about psychology topics and to view psychology from a Christian world-and-life view. Biblical education, an introduction to the world of research, and a strong emphasis on classroom critical thinking help shape CU psychology majors to understand people & life from a biblical perspective.
While many of our faculty are active researchers and all regularly contribute professionally to the psychology discipline, there is a strong emphasis on classroom teaching among the CU psychology faculty. This means they invest their lives in students by way of mentoring, discipling, and providing individual guidance to psychology majors. As such, faculty invite you to connect with them personally. You may feel free to do so via the e-mail addresses available on the psychology faculty web site regarding questions you have about majoring in psychology.
Each faculty member will be happy to be in touch with you. If you wish to focus particular questions to specific faculty, Dr. Chuck Dolph heads the psychology internship and focuses on the areas of social psychology and relationships. Dr. Luke Tse is a marriage and family therapist and teaches most of the specific counseling courses, while Dr. Chi-en Hwang concentrates mostly in the quantitative research domain. Dr. Milt Becknell is a board certified clinical health psychologist who teaches personality, testing and abnormal psychology; he is acting chair in the psychology department for the 2008-09 academic year. Dr. Cosette Fox teaches physiological, learning, and cross-cultural psychology. Ms. Amanda Burger, new to the department in the fall of 2008, teaches the general psychology and child development courses. Dr. Michael Firmin, on sabbatical during the 2008-09 academic year, serves as the department chair and handles administrative responsibilities in the department. You may surf the various web pages of each faculty member to learn more particulars and specifics about what the psychology faculty do and teach at Cedarville University.
