Weather/Lightning Policy
The Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System has been installed on both the varsity athletic field complex and the intramural sports complex for the safety of all of our players and fans. Lightning is a hazard that must be viewed seriously. Everyone should immediately seek shelter any time they believe lightning threatens them, even if a signal has not been sounded.
The Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System will warn all those on the athletic and intramural sports fields when the probability of lightning is imminent with a single 15-second blast of the horns along with the flashing of a strobe light. The strobe light will remain on until safe conditions return. As soon as the horns have blown and the strobe light remains flashing, all games are officially suspended and everyone should immediately seek an appropriate safe shelter. Since the intramural fields across 72 consist of metal fences and open areas, the only shelter would be in vehicles. Those who do not have a vehicle to climb into are strongly encourage to find shelter across the road in one of the dorms or the Fitness/Rec Center. If you remain outdoors after the warning is issued, you do so at your own risk!
Once the threat of lightening is over, the system will give three 5 second blasts of the horns and the strobe light will stop flashing. Games may then resume play.
