Nelson Henning (Chair)
Dr. Henning serves as Professor of Social Work and Director of the Social Work Program. He has special interest in the fields of chemical dependency, grief work, and family issues. Dr. Henning has many diversified experiences in the field of social work including: rehabilitation and corrections work, child/spouse abuse work, mental health clinic work, Employee Assistance Program Director, and also the Director of a 28-day Chemical Dependency Program. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and has been at Cedarville since 1994.
Christine Fulmer
Professor Fulmer serves as an Associate Professor of Social Work and Assistant Director of the Social Work Program. She received her undergraduate degree at Baptist Bible College in Clark Summit, Pennsylvania and her Master’s in Social Work at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Professor Fulmer is the president elect of the board of directors for Integrated Youth Services, the child and adolescent behavioral health provider for Greene County. She also serves at the president of the Ohio College Association of Social Work Educators. Prior to coming to Cedarville, she served as Director of Domestic and International Adoption at a Christian social service agency. She also developed a therapeutic foster care program for an agency in the Philadelphia area. She comes to Cedarville with a background in child welfare, mental health and adoption. Professor Fulmer has presented at several conferences in places such as Hong Kong and Washington D.C. As a clinical social worker, her areas of competence are group dynamics, program development, and child sexual abuse.
Julie Furj
Professor Furj serves as an Assistant Professor of Social Work. She received undergraduate degrees in Bible and Social Work at the Philadelphia Biblical University and her Master of Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to Cedarville, she was the Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI- Franklin County Ohio). She has taught social work courses at Debrecen University in Hungary, has conducted extensive research on AIDS, and has worked with homeless women.
George Huff
Professor Huff is an Associate Professor of Social Work, serving as the Field Director in the Social Work Program. He received his bachelor's degree in sociology from Ashland University where he minored in social work and political science. He earned his master's degree in science and social administration from Case Western Reserve University. Professor Huff worked in child welfare, such as foster, adoptive, and volunteer services, for more than 25 years. During that time he also worked after hours investigating child abuse and neglect cases. Before coming to Cedarville, he was responsible for two Ashland University programs: the Outreach Program, which provided college classes in prisons, and the Partnership Program, where he academically advised college students. An independent licensed social worker, Professor Huff has been an adjunct faculty member for both Ashland University and North Central State College.
Patrick Oliver
Professor Oliver serves as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Director of the Criminal Justice Program. Prior to coming to Cedarville in 2005, he served 27 years in law enforcement, including Chief of Police in the City of Fairborn, Grandview Heights, and Cleveland, Ohio, and as Ranger Chief of Cleveland Metropolitan Parks. He also spent eleven years as a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Masters of Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College. In addition, Professor Oliver has completed programs with the Penn State University Police Executive School, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development School, and the Ohio Association of Police Executive Leadership College. He is also a Certified Law Enforcement Executive. Besides teaching and program development, Professor Oliver serves in many law enforcement organizations. These include the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (consultant, trainer, and former President), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (consultant, trainer, and Civil Rights committee), the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (consultant, trainer, and the education and training committee), and as a Commissioner for the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
Professor Oliver and his wife have three children.
Robert Parr
Dr. Parr serves as Professor of Sociology. His previous and current interests span a wide range of experience in theology, cultural anthropology, the sociology of religion, marriage and the family. After coming to Cedarville in 1980, Dr. Parr was instrumental in establishing the Social Work Program and securing professional accreditation through the Council of Social Work Education. Dr. Parr has conducted a Pastors Leadership Conference in Kenya, Africa. He has also served in various capacities at Lake Ann Camp in Michagan and ministries to congregations as an interim pastor. Dr. Parr earned his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in 1987.
Robert Vaughn
Prof. Vaughn joined the Cedarville faculty in January 2009 as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. He completed his undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University and obtained a law degree from Capital University Law School in 1998.
Prior to coming to Cedarville, Prof. Vaughn worked as an attorney in state government for over ten years. Most recently, he served as a staff attorney at the Supreme Court of Ohio. He also served as Assistant Attorney General, Crime Victims Services, and as a staff attorney, Crime Victims Compensation Program, for the Court of Claims of Ohio.
Married since 1996, he and his wife Pamela have four children. Both Prof. Vaughn and his wife are active in their local church and within their community.
Susan Warner
Dr. Warner serves as Director of Assessment in the CTL andAssociate Professor of Sociology. Dr. Warner has presented many papers related to her field of interest, which includes homelessness, gender issues, family sociology and welfare reform. Before coming to Cedarville she taught at University of Akron, Baldwin Wallace College and Lorain Community College. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Akron. She has been at Cedarville since 1999.
