Student Life

We realize that college life is more than just attending classes. Because of this, we work hard at providing a complete range of activities and services to help both resident students and commuter students make the most of their college experience.

The following information has been provided to help you make a smooth transition to Cedarville. Listed below are answers to several frequently asked questions about student life here at Cedarville. For more information, you can also view our online student handbook.

Feel free to call us with your questions anytime at 1-800-CEDARVILLE. You may wish to talk directly to your dean of students with any campus-life questions. They may be reached at the following e-mail addresses:

When should I arrive on campus?

Residence hall students should plan to report to the Stevens Student Center between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7. Your room assignment and other important materials will be available there. Students needing to arrive early must contact the Student Life Office to make arrangements for arrival on Sunday, January 6. Commuter students should also plan to arrive between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on January 7 in order to receive their materials for orientation and registration.

  • First contract meal is dinner on Monday, January 7, from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • All students are required to attend the Spring Missions Conference, which begins on Tuesday, January 8, at 10:00 a.m.
  • Classes begin on Tuesday, January 8.

When will residence hall students be notified of room assignments?

Our deans are working on housing assignments right now. The process will be finished and you will be notified of your room assignment at orientation. We will do our best to make sure each student has a very positive experience on campus.

If you have specific requests regarding the residence halls or your roommate, you can email Pat Bates (women) or Brad Smith (men).

What if I need a ride to campus from the airport or bus terminal?

We can provide transportation from either Dayton or Columbus. To schedule your transportation you must contact the Guest Services Office directly at 1-800-233-2784 by December 14 in order to give them time to make the necessary arrangements. When you call, please have your arrival date, arrival time, and airline/bus number available. The following fees are payable to the driver:

From Dayton:

  • Single student: $40 per student

From Columbus:

  • Single student: $70 per student

What about orientation and what does it involve?

Cedarville's orientation program assists new students in their adjustments to campus life and acquaints them with their academic responsibilities. Students and staff will greet you, direct you to where you need to go, and respond to any questions you may have. New students are required to attend the New Student Orientation session at 1:30 p.m. in the Stevens Student Center on January 7. New freshmen and transfers must also attend the Course Registration meeting scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Other important sessions are the Parent's Orientation at 1:30 p.m. and the CedarNet Orientation meeting at 4:30 p.m. A detailed orientation schedule for new students is available below. Readmit students are not required to attend orientation unless they need to receive a housing assignment or see an academic advisor regarding course changes. Classes begin on Tuesday, January 8.

What about student health insurance?

All students taking six or more credit hours will receive student health insurance at no additional cost. Also, married students can obtain health insurance for non-enrolled spouses at a reasonable cost. Our Insurance Coordinator, Murtha Kaercher, can answer specific questions about the plan. Her phone number is listed at the bottom of this page, along with other numbers you may need.

What services are provided to new commuter students?

This year more than 300 students will commute to campus. This includes married students, non-traditional students or students who live close enough to campus to commute from home, and students who have requested permission to move off campus. We provide a variety of services and programs to help off-campus students take full advantage of the Cedarville experience. If you are a married new student, please feel free to invite your spouse to the new student orientation meeting at 1:30 p.m. on January 7.

What about the Community Covenant and other student life policies?

The student handbook is available online. Please be sure to review it carefully.

What about my car?

Please contact the campus safety office at 937-766-7992 for information on registering your vehicle.

What about phone service in the residence halls?

All dorm rooms have a phone jack into which students may plug their personal phones. Please make sure that the phone is analog and not digital. Each dorm room is assigned a unique phone number shared by roommates. The local area code is "937," and all phone numbers will start with a "766" prefix. Calls made to other dorm rooms on campus and local calls are free of charge. To make long distance calls, students will need to bring a calling card or credit card. Students may not use their dorm phones to set up long distance services through any of the major phone providers. Students may use cell phones on campus, but they must turn them off during class, chapel, and other events during which they may be considered disruptive.
