Cedarville University offers ongoing e-mail services for former students! "E-mail for Life "(EFL) is not just a forwarding service; alumni have an actual e-mail account at Cedarville. If you would prefer to use our forwarding service rather than having an actual e-mail account at Cedarville, click here.

Who qualifies for an account?

Anyone who has earned academic credit from Cedarville University is eligible to have an e-mail account. (The University reserves the right to deny an account for anyone with past-due financial obligations or for other reasons at the University′s discretion.)

How do I get an EFL account?

You may setup an account using a simple CedarInfo transaction. There is no charge for EFL.

What password should I use to access my EFL account?

Your CedarInfo password will also be used for EFL. You will not have a separate password for EFL.

How long will I be able to have the account?

It is the University′s intent to provide this service for an extended period of time ("for life"), but the University reserves the right to terminate the entire "E-mail for Life" offering at any time. Individual accounts may be terminated at the University′s discretion.

What are my responsibilities in using the account?

The EFL account should not be used for sending spam, harassing messages, or messages with unethical or illegal purposes. Messages sent from the account should be honoring to the Lord in content and tone.

How much storage space will be allocated to my account?

Each account will be given an allotted space of 1 gigabyte. Attachments are limited to 40 megabytes each.

Can I obtain additional space for my account?

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer additional space at this time.

What e-mail address will I have?

You will keep whatever login name you currently have (i.e., the login name that you use to access CedarInfo or the alumni directory). EFL messages sent to you should use either of the following formats:
     johnksmith@cedarville.edu
     johnksmith@alumni.cedarville.edu
The return address which will appear on all mail sent from your EFL account will show 'alumni.cedarville.edu'.

How do I access my e-mail?

There are two ways that you can access your e-mail:

  • You can use an ordinary Web browser to connect to:
         http://alumni.cedarville.edu
  • If you are already using Microsoft Outlook (or some other IMAP or POP e-mail client -- the EFL server handles both protocols), you can configure Outlook to process mail from your Cedarville account. Configure your client to use alumni.cedarville.edu as your incoming mail server. To use alumni.cedarville.edu as your outgoing mail server, you must select "My server requires authentication" or the equivalent in your e-mail program. In Outlook Express this setting is under the "Outgoing Mail Server" section. After clicking on the Settings button, choose "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server."

May I change my login name?

You may request a change to your login name via CedarInfo (Individual Transactions). Changing your login name will also change your e-mail address. Alumni who still have a Groupwise e-mail account will need to wait until their Groupwise account is deleted before they will be able to request a change in their login name.

How long will my messages be kept in my mailbox?

If you use the account frequently, items should remain until you delete them. However, we strongly recommend that you print "really important" messages just in case something would go wrong with the e-mail system. If you do not login to your EFL account for a period of six months, all items (messages, calendar entries, etc.) will be deleted.

Will Cedarville University send e-mail to my account?

The University will exercise caution in sending e-mail to your "E-mail for Life" account. Any e-mail sent will be for official University business only. Your address will not be sold or given away to outside individuals or organizations.

Why can′t I see an address book like I could when I was a student?

For privacy reasons, alumni e-mail addresses will not be visible in the address book. You can lookup e-mail addresses for alumni who have chosen to release their addresses by using the online alumni directory:
     http://www.cedarville.edu/cf/alumni/directory/search.cfm
You may want to go into the directory and make your own e-mail address visible to others.

What if I want to stop using my account?

You can use CedarInfo to terminate your EFL account. You may re-activate your EFL account by returning to CedarInfo and running the "E-mail for Life" transaction, however messages and calendar entries in your original account may be lost.

What will happen to my existing student (Groupwise) account?

EFL accounts are part of our NetMail system and are totally separate from the Groupwise system used for student e-mail. Appointments, messages, etc. will not be transferred from student e-mail (Groupwise) to EFL (NetMail). You should make sure you have saved any information you need from your student account prior to that account being deleted.

What will happen to future e-mail sent to my old Groupwise account?

Mail from the Internet addressed to you will be placed in your Email for Life (Netmail) box. On-campus people will need to use your full email address (johnksmith@alumni.cedarville.edu) rather than the internal address (johnksmith) or the shortened Internet address (johnksmith@cedarville.edu). You may need to communicate your email address to friends who are still on campus since your name will not show up in the Groupwise address book.
