The Bioethics Minor at Cedarville University
The bioethics minor is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students for public discourse and input on issues of bioethical importance, with an emphasis on the sanctity of human life. The minor provides interested students with a foundation for theoretical and applied bioethics from both Christian and secular viewpoints.
Students in the following majors should consider the bioethics minor:
- Pre-Health Professions students (medicine, nursing, allied health)
- Psychology and Social Work
- Philosophy and Bible Majors
- Any other interested students
Course requirements:
- Introduction to Philosophy (BEPH 2200) – 3 semester hours
- Ethics (BEPH 2250) – 3 semester hours
- Principles of Biology (BIO 1000 or higher-level BIO course) – 3.5 semester hours
- Human Studies Component (any one of the following):
- Anatomy and Physiology (BIO 2010) – 4 semester hours
- Human Structure and Function I (BIO 3450) – 4 semester hours
- General Psychology (PYCH 1600) – 3 semester hours
- Cultural Anthropology (ANTH 1800) – 3 semester hours
- Bioethics (either one of the following):
- Principles of Bioethics (BIO 4710) – 3 semester hours
- Bioethics and the Human Experience (GBIO 2720) – 3 semester hours
- Bioethics Colloquium (capstone) – 1 semester hour
Total Semester Hours: 16.5 – 17.5 semester hours
