For This Cause: The Ministry and Martyrdom of John and Betty Stam
January 6 9:00 P.M. to 9, 2004
For This Cause: The Ministry and Martyrdom of John and Betty Stam Written and Directed by David H. Robey Published by Lillenas Publishers,1988For This Cause is a love story. It is the story of two college-age students who first fell in love with the call of God upon their lives and then fell in love with each other.
John Stam and Betty Scott met in 1928 while attending the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. As college students, they answered God’s call to invest their lives in sharing the message of Christ’s love with the people of China. They were married in China in 1932. One year later, Betty gave birth to their daughter, Helen Priscilla. Two months later, John and Betty were captured and murdered by rebel Communist forces in China.
For This Cause is John and Betty’s story. Much of the script is taken from the letters, poetry, and personal family records of the Stams.
