Expiring CedarNet Accounts
Network accounts and H-drive files are kept active in the following situations:
| Enrollment Period | Account Active |
|---|---|
| Undergraduate students enrolled for entire fall semester | through August 31 of the following calendar year |
| Undergraduate students enrolled for entire spring semester | through January 31 of the following calendar year |
| CU Academy Students | through August 31 of their high-school graduation year |
| Summer Studies Students | through August 31 of their high-school graduation year |
| Graduate Students | one year beyond date of last enrollment |
| Continuing Education Students | ten days beyond date of last enrollment |
Once these time periods have elapsed, the accounts are purged. Purging the accounts means that all mail messages, files on the "H:" drive, etc. will be permanently deleted. These students should make sure they save their files and e-mail messages (save to USB memory sticks, burn to CD, print them, or forward to an off-campus email account) prior the accounts being purged.
Non-returning students are eligible to establish an "Email for Life" account from the CedarInfo menus. Additional information is available on the Alumni E-mail For Life site.
Trimming H: Drive Files by May 1
We encourage all students to trim their H: drives by removing old files that are no longer needed. Also, please delete recreational files (MP3's, etc.) which take up a lot of space. This will help our networking staff with the installation of new servers over the summer. (Please do not delete files in the h:\net directory or any of its subdirectories.)
E-mail for Non-Returning Students
You can setup an "Email for Life" (EFL) account via CedarInfo. Additional information is available on the Alumni E-mail For Life site.
Accessing E-mail During the Summer
Students who will not be on campus during the summer can check their email using GroupWise Web Access:
Another option is to setup email forwarding. View the Forwarding E-mail help page to find out how forwarding can be done from within Groupwise. This will forward every message that comes into your Groupwise mailbox to the forwarding address.
You can also set a forwarding address from the CedarInfo miscellaneous section. This will only forward messages that you are receiving from Internet addresses, before they reach your Groupwise mailbox:
»CedarInfo
Remember to cancel the forwarding when you return to campus in the fall.
Summer Outages
We will be performing hardware maintenance on many of the servers this summer. This maintenance will require shutting down one server at a time for a few hours. We will try to give advance notice of this work. If you try to connect and find that your mailbox is unavailable, please wait a few hours and try again. If the problem persists, please contact us via email or via phone (937-766-7905 during regular business hours).
Account Terminations
The University reserves the right to terminate network accounts without notice to the account holders. Causes for this action could include:
- Suspension/dismissal of the student
- Inappropriate use of the account
- Other causes as deemed appropriate by the University
