Self-Provided Computers at The 'Ville!

It is our pleasure to continue to provide a secure and pervasive network for your use during your time with us. Whether a student, faculty, staff member, or guest of the University we want you to be able to access our network whenever you may need to. To assist in this mission, we make it possible for you to use your own computer under our Self-Provided Computer (SPC) program.

SPCs are becoming a large part of our computing culture here at the 'Ville. To meet the demand we are constantly making changes and improvements to our network. It is our goal to get SPC users accessing the network and surfing the Web as quickly and easily as possible.

SPC Assistance during May Term

We will continue to offer assistance for SPC users throughout May Term. However, due to a number of other projects that need to be completed our SPC Assistance Counter will not have regular hours. It is recommended that you use the following procedure to get prompt service for your SPC needs.

  1. Submit a Computer Service Request using the link found on our campus home page.
  2. A SPC technician will contact you within 24 hours regarding possible resolutions to the problem you have described.
  3. If it is required that a technician look at your computer, they will request that you deliver it to Computer Services' main office in TYL 122.

We look forward to serving you throughout this May Term.

Registering SPCs for Use

To access our network, each SPC must be registered with Computer Services. To begin the process of registration you need to open an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, then attempt to navigate to a website that is not connected to Cedarville University (e.g., www.google.com).

We provide detailed instructions for registering your SPC

Manually register your game system or other SPC device that does not have a web browser.

An important part of our registration process is scanning your computer to ensure that it meets our minimum software requirements. This scan will verify that you have an operating system that is supported on our network, an active and up-to-date virus scanning application, and an active and up-to-date spyware/malware scanning utility. Each of these pieces of software is vital to maintaining our network stability and security. The registration process will return either a passing or a failing report, which will also provide links to web pages and documents that will help you resolve problems discovered during the scan. Once your computer has successfully passed this scan it will automatically be registered with Computer Services and configured to access our network and the Internet.

We do have technicians who are ready and able to assist with all aspects of SPC registration. Our technician team can be reached by phone at 4156; they are also glad to provide personal assistance at our SPC Assistance Counter in Tyle Digital Communication Center 110. Normal charges are in effect for all services and support of SPCs.
