Wireless Network Access: Outdoor Wireless
Five antennas have been installed to provide outdoor wireless network access to most of the Cedarville University campus. Two are located on the CDR radio tower at the south end of campus and three are on the water tower at the north end of campus.
How to Get Connected
Go outside to an area with wireless access. (See How much of campus is covered? below.)

Please note: All Cedarville University wireless networks have "cedarwireless" as the beginning of the network name (SSID). Any other networks detected by your computer are not University-owned.
Outdoor Wireless FAQs
Is this the main wireless page?
No. The main wireless page provides general instructions detailing how to get connected and how to get help.
How much of campus is covered?
Almost the entire campus is covered, including the ball fields! There are occasional dead spots because of obstructions from buildings and trees, but most of the outdoors is covered. The only area that does not have an antenna pointing towards it is the area in the direction of the Hill and the Service Center. Click here to see a map of outdoor coverage.
How fast is the access?
The radios attached to the antennas run at the 802.11b/g wireless standard. This standard allows you to connect at speeds up to 54Mbps. The actual speed will vary depending on how close you are to an antenna and how many buildings or trees are in the way.
How do I get the best possible connection?
To get the best possible connection, make sure you can see the water tower or the CDR radio tower.
Does it work inside?
You may be able to connect inside, but you will not have a strong connection. The goal of the system is to provide outdoor - not indoor - wireless coverage. In most cases, it is not strong enough to penetrate the brick and block walls or metals roofs of buildings.
Does it work off-campus?
The outdoor wireless may be usable from some off-campus locations, but any off-campus use is not supported by Computer Services. This means that Computer Services will not offer any help or support to users trying to connect to a Cedarville University wireless network from off-campus.
How do I report a problem?
You can report a problem the same way you do for any other computer or network problem. Click here to submit a Computer Service Request.
