TabletPC Project Description
Cedarville's Technology Planning Committee noted the recent introduction of computers running Microsoft's Windows for TabletPC Operating System. These devices typically include a stylus for entering information into the system. Some of the units also include a keyboard.
In an effort to assess the suitability of these devices in the educational environment, the University has acquired units from the following manufacturers:
- Acer
- Gateway (Motion Computing)
- Hewlett-Packard
- Toshiba
Members of the Technology Planning Committee and interested faculty members are using these devices for a week or two at a time throughout the 2003-04 academic year. Uses being explored include:
- Note-taking using Windows Journal
- Wireless connectivity on campus
- Mobile use at academic conferences
- Office-system replacement
The Tablet PC project is scheduled to conclude in May of 2004.
